Happy New Year. It's 2012, so now is the time to revisit the blockbuster disaster movie of the same number. After all, the world's not really going to come to an end this year despite what those Mayans said... is it?January kicks off with a big movie in 3D, featuring the blue inhabitants of a fantasy forest. But hang on, it's not Avatar 2. THE SMURFS find their way into New York City in this live-action/CGI adventure. It's going to be a big year for Belgium, with both Smurfs creator Peyo and Tintin scribe Hergé's legacies immortalised on screen for a whole new generation of viewers. If it's laughter you're after, there's two big comedies hitting the shelves this month — both starring the underrated Jason Bateman. That's right, two times JB at JB! In HORRIBLE BOSSES, Bateman is one of three mates with deadly designs on their respective employers; and in THE CHANGE-UP, he swaps bodies with playboy pal Ryan Reynolds. Hilarity, as they say, ensues. A stroll down BOARDWALK EMPIRE is also a must this month. HBO's hot new series recreates the twenties with meticulous detail, positioning Steve Buscemi as the ruler of Atlantic City with a monopoly on bootleg booze. Martin Scorsese directs the pilot episode, if you need further incentive. For all you gamers there's a preview of things to come — and play — in 2012, together with a range of awesome accessories designed to enhance your gaming experience. And the world of music doesn't stop over summer. This month we whoop and holler with THE BLACK KEYS as we delve into their hugely acclaimed El Camino; meet UK electro-thrashers ENTER SHIKARI; reappraise the catalogue of March tourists New Order; and catch up with BUSH's Gavin Rossdale as he reboots his old band for a new album and tour. We've also got the lowdown on the latest new releases and the best of the upcoming touring acts: summer in Australia, it's a wonderful thing! |
