Mar 2010: It’s only fitting that Richard Lowenstein’s ode to Oz punk should be making its worldwide Blu-ray premiere in Australia. A snapshot of Melbourne in the late ‘70s, Lowenstein’s roving camera takes a voyeuristic – and now even more detailed – look at the chaotic life of a bunch of musicians and misfits (including Michael Hutchence in his movie debut) who inhabit a Richmond share-house.

Mar 2010: Home resembles Earth in terms of delivering stunning nature photography in the highest possible resolution. But this is a documentary with a message, one that not only highlights the visual splendours but also the long term damage that’s being inflicted on the planet by the human race. Shot in HD and in over 50 countries, this film looks as stunning as you would expect.
Mar 2010: Emma Thompson’s magical governess is back in a BD/ DVD combo pack, allowing kids to refresh prior to seeing the sequel, Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang, at the cinema. Moreover, the dual format lets them watch it on the bedroom portable, in the car, or on the lounge room flatscreen for the deluxe screening, where the colours and visual overload will really clobber the little ones. Sinister but safe, just like Roald Dahl’s best.
Mar 2010: Entourage fans will already know they need this for Jeremy Piven’s performance as a Vegas magician and wannabe mobster. The rest can revel in a hyper-edited, madcap mash-up of Tarantino and Guy Ritchie cool with a grindhouse aesthetic.
Mar 2010: This soft focus fairy tale with an all-star cast (Robert DeNiro, Peter O’Toole, Michelle Pfieffer) and the pedigree of being adapted from a Neil Gaiman novel is a great choice for Blu-ray, given its glittering magical realms filled with weird wonders and dazzling visual effects. A whimsical fantasy romp for fans of The Princess Bride.

Mar 2010: The ‘80s British cult classic gets a High Definition makeover that will please fans and the uninitiated. Withnail & I has always been a dark looking film and this 1080p upgrade pumps up the colours and clarity, contrasting the drab look of the lads’ London flat of the ‘60s with the more scenic landscape surrounding Uncle Monty’s country cottage.
