Based on a cult novel of the same name by C.D. Payne, Youth in Revolt is a comedy vehicle for the affable and dependable Michael Cera.
Following roles in Superbad and Juno, the young star is now the go-to man whenever Hollywood requires a romantic lead with sensitive but oddball qualities.
Here, in pursuit of dream girl Portia Doubleday, who still has feelings for her ex-boyfriend, the wimpy Cera develops a ruthless and rebellious alter ego in order to impress her. However, his new persona could land him on the wrong side of the law.
The clever dialogue will endear this incident laden comedy to fans of Juno, while its pathos and matter of fact approach to teen sexuality shares a riff with Adventureland.
