The old body-swap comedy device is dusted off for The Change-Up. Jason Bateman and Ryan Reynolds are best buddies living totally different lives.

Dave (Bateman) is a lawyer who’s married with kids, while party boy bachelor Mitch (Reynolds) is a wannabe actor living the wild life.

After a big night on the town together, they drunkenly declare “I want your life” while peeing into a wishing well. A thunderclap and lightning flash later, the guys wake up in each other’s body.

Suddenly Mitch (as Dave) has to deal with things like corporate deals, parenthood and responsibility, while Dave (as Mitch) must front for an acting gig in a softcore adult film amongst other rude surprises.

We’ve seen this formula countless times in flicks like Freaky Friday, Big, 17 Again et al, and the affable combination of Bateman and Reynolds make it work here.

A crass comedy for the boys that’s exactly what you’d expect from the director of Wedding Crashers.

Extras: • First Fight Deleted Scene (DVD & BD) • Gag Reel (DVD & BD) • Time For a Change (BD) • Family Matter (BD) • Director’s Commentary (BD)

STARRING: Jason Bateman, Ryan Reynolds

Did You Know...? Ryan Reynolds’ character Mitch expertly wields a samurai sword in the beginning of the movie. Reynolds acquired this skill for his role as Wade Wilson in X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

Sometimes actors appear to revel in their roles; striving for accolades with every ounce of talent squeezed into their performances. Other times, as in "The Change-Up", it feels like they're in it for a bit of fun on the side. Bateman and Reynolds certainly didn't 'phone it in' as Dave and Mitch (and Mitch and Dave), but this vehicle was just a wee bit small for the top-notch comedic skill of its stars. The real LOLs and ROFLs can probably be counted on one hand, but to be fair, the giggle nuggets it does have are golden. If you love a bit of low-brow cheeky humour in the stylings of "Bridesmaids" or "The Hangover", you'll probably find this to be a 'bit of fun on the side' as well; but it is definitely well worth a watch. Highlights: The hilarious scene where Mitch+Dave first meet up after the body swap; Mitch's inexperience with children (both actors); and Bateman and Reynolds' remarkable impersonations of each other's mannerisms. Not so much highlights: I will say this - try not to be eating while watching.

If you are looking for small chuckles like a cheeky giggle in a church then the change up is for you.Ryan Renolds delivers his usually quick wit and charm but not to the extent of movies like "Van Wilder" or "The Proposal".Perfectly paired with Jason Bateman this feel good movie will have you either pressing the eject button or urinating in a fountain.

It's hard not to get excited about a movie that stars both Jason Bateman and Ryan Reynolds. Two very good comedy actors who shouldn't have a hard time carrying a body swap comedy. But The Change-Up isn't the finest hour of anyone involved. It's main problem is that it is just not that funny. Jason Bateman scores a few times, and Ryan Reynolds is likable enough, but the supporting cast is wasted, and the writing mainly relies on too many fart and sex jokes for it to an enjoyable experience. The Change-Up is worth a watch, if not for Bateman's performance, but it's instantly forgettable and not worth watching again.

The cross out humour is just relevant in a 2011 comedy movie. Comedy films of today are just made of gross out bits that ignorant people call humour. The coarse language and silliness of Jason Bateman doesn't suit the actor himself as he usually represents a smart confident people rather than a crude and rude persona of Mitch Planko. A Crude version of those classic body swapping movies that we all love.

The Change Up in four words could be described as a crude, gross, unfunny movie. The movie just attempts to be funny as you would think because of the number of "famous" actors but it just doesn't work for me.Dave Lockwood (Jason Bateman) and Mitch Planko (Ryan Reynolds) were best of friends since the start, but as life passes by, they grow further apart. Dave, is a very successful overworked lawyer on the brink of the case of his lifetime but with the stress of raising three children all at once is killing him at the moment. Mitch, on the other hand is an aspirant actor and irresponsible drone that could never accept the responsibility of being an adult. But after Dave and Mitch urinate (yeah, that childish) into a magic water fountain, they some how swap lives. The boys then have to deal with the responsibility of being a family man and the act of being playing in a Ryan Reynolds film role.
