Although it doesn’t stray too far from familiar rom-com conventions, this is sharper, funnier and more thoughtful than most.

Much of that is down to a superior ensemble cast, which pairs the ever reliable Steve Carell with rising stars Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone, together with other accomplished performers like Julianne Moore, Kevin Bacon and Marisa Tomei.

Carell plays a nice but dull forty-something who is dumped by his wife (Moore) for a work colleague (Bacon). Drowning his sorrows, he gains the sympathy of cool bachelor Gosling, who gives him a fashion makeover and teaches him how to successfully navigate the singles’ scene (read: cruise bars for one night stands).

Meanwhile, a law student (Stone) – who has previously rejected the advances of Gosling – is beginning to have second thoughts about her boyfriend (Josh Groban), while unbeknownst to Carell, his teenage babysitter (Analeigh Tipton) has a crush on him. And just to complicate things even further, Carell’s 13-year-old son (Jonah Bobo) has a crush on her.

Inevitably, this tangled web of relationships collide in the most unexpected and entertaining ways.

STARRING: Steve Carell, Ryan Gosling, Julianne Moore, Emma Stone, Marisa Tomei, Kevin Bacon

Extras: • Steve and Ryan Walk Into a Bar (BD) • The Player Meets His Match (BD) • Deleted Scenes (DVD & BD)

Did You Know...? The cocktail that Ryan Gosling’s character drinks and makes throughout the movie is an “Old Fashioned”, considered by some historians to be the first American cocktail. Also, Robbie’s class is studying The Scarlet Letter. This novel is the basis for Emma Stone’s previous movie Easy A.

#6. An
Stellar cast which reads as so. Carrell, Moore, Gosling, Stone, Tomei, Bacon.
Crazy, Stupid, Love. As the movie title suggests there is a little of all three which features throughout.
It takes you through the trials and tribulations of that thing we call love.
It’s like six degrees of Kevin Bacon in this movie, with a chain of events leading to an unexpected twist in the end.
This witty movie will keep you laughing and smiling from beginning to end.
Guys and gals alike would be sure to enjoy. It’s a must-see if not only for the guest appearance of Gosling’s exceptional abdominals for the ladies and for the light-hearted humour for the gents.

At different times this film was crazier, stupider and lovelier than I would have expected. This movie had all the traditional rom-com elements, but more of them and combined into some surprising twists and variations. I enjoyed the set pieces where Cal gets his makeover and Ryan's character finally falls in love. I also enjoyed the slapstick humour that gave periodic relief without undermining a generally bitter-sweet sensibility. It's unusual for an ensemble cast to give such depth of characterisation given the relatively limited amount of screen time each love story has to play out, and the necessity of gathering all those plot threads back together again at the end in a pleasing and meaningful way. The final wrap-up at the eighth grade graduation was a little contrived, but it stated the theme of the movie -- the value of pursuing true love in the face of possible failure -- and hinted at reconciliations across the board without guaranteeing anything.

An incredible romcom flick that isn't like all the others! For once you're not able to predict the near ending, and if you do you will be terribly wrong.. leaving you for a surprise, which honestly you never really get in most romcoms. It's a movie great for the whole family, theres no obscenities or overuse of crude language that could offend younger viewers of 13 and up. Definitely recommend it for those who are wanting a good laugh.

This is one of the best romantic comedies ever. It is definitely not just a chick flick. My wife and I both enjoyed it. It has more comedy than most comedy films. The scenes with Steve Carell and his son's school teacher are hilarious, as is the relationship between his son and the babysitter. The mini stories in the movie all tie together in a tumultuous scene near the end of the movie. This movie was great fun and I can highly recommend it.

Crazy, Stupid, Love. This film brilliantly explores the crazier, stupider, human-er side of love and just as you think you are going to get away with a light, fluffy tale, hits you right in the heart. Feels like real life, and that's just what you want in a film sometimes. Wonderful dive into the complications, pain humour and joy of Love. Your boyfriend will like it too, promise.

Despite including the combo of Steve Carell and it-girl Emma Stone, "Crazy, Stupid, Love" is really not a 'date night movie' -- you know, the kind that tries to meet The Boyfriend halfway in some kind of matched sacrifice. This, girlfriends, is a shamelessly delicious, chocolate eclair chick flick. And while it's not an all-time classic per se, it's definitely well above-average and very nicely layered. Certainly one to keep in the home library, to watch again down the track. I loved the scenes when Hannah and Jacob meet for the second time; as well as the backyard bombshells when everything comes to a head. All the actors did a very decent job but Marisa Tomei and Liza Lapira are particularly delightful... and, what can I say, Ryan Gosling is all-that on a smokin' stick. The DVD special features included a deleted alternate ending, which I actually think would have been a nice touch to see in the film. Overall, "Crazy, Stupid, Love" is a perfectly sweet way to spend an evening. Indulge and enjoy, girls.
