One of Steven Soderbergh’s best films in years offers a terrifying look at the impact of a global pandemic on society. Trading the sensationalism of similar disease outbreak films for a more intellectual approach, Contagion is likely to make you think twice about touching handrails on public transport.

Boasting an A-list ensemble cast and shot in a similar style to Soderbergh’s acclaimed drug drama Traffic, Contagion tracks the effects of the disease worldwide, the attempt to contain it, and the race to find a cure.

Matt Damon is the grieving husband whose wife (Gwyneth Paltrow) was the first to succumb to the virus; Laurence Fishburne and Kate Winslet are the CDC officers investigating the outbreak; Marion Cotillard is the epidemiologist assigned to locate the source of the infection; and Jude Law is the opportunistic blogger peddling a bogus cure.

Similar in structure and tone to the 1993 drama And the Band Played On (about the spread of the AIDS virus), Contagion is a chilling tale that is frighteningly possible.

STARRING: Matt Damon, Gwyneth Paltrow, Laurence Fishburne, Kate Winslet, Marion Cotillard, Jude Law

Steven Soderbergh's "Contagion" is a foreboding and personal film which explores the notion of the instability of society and the human condition when we are placed in a situation of a global pandemic. Boasting film heavy-weights including Matt Damon, Gwenth Paltrow and the timelessly captivating Laurence Fishburn, the responder is able to comprehend the decent of the human condition into selfishness arising from the sanitation ignorance of a fair few. Those that watch will now become starkly aware of the germs and bacteria that lurk in the common bathroom handle and the train railing. Ultimately, "Contagion" poses the idea of what it takes for society to be reduced to fear-mongering and instability thorugh the spread of a global pandemic, a must buy and watch, an eye opener of a film that will continue to be talked about for years to come.

Contagion is a stand out film, which could be the starting point in which to bring back the viral outbreak films that were so popular in the 90's and early 2000's. It helps capture the true mood of the film with touching performances by Matt Damon and Kate Winslet. They both perform at a higher standard than what would have been expected for this type of film, but it also helped to draw you into the film itself. Contagion really makes you open your eyes to how quickly viruses can be spread and even make you think about washing your hands more. This is one of those film's in which you think about the high possibility that this can and could happen. If you enjoy films in which will keep you interested and intrigued right till the end, then this film is for you. Contagion truly is a one of a kind film, and very different to others with a similar plot, but it still remains a film you have to see to believe.

Contagion is a 'this could really happen' type of movie with and all star cast. It seems in the first half an hour every new scene there's a different face that you know. The film focuses on the lives of many different people and how they are affected by an unknown disease that is rapidly spreading around the world with no known cure at the present. If Jaws kept you out of the water this film will have you washing your hands more and cover your mouth when coughing or sneezing. An enjoyable film.
