[DVD, Blu-ray]LA Woman was The Doors’ last album with Jim Morrison, and one of their best-received. It’s certainly the least dated.
Recorded live over four days after their producer walked out, the album’s bluesy, powerful economy is miles away from poetic tracts about lizards, or other quasi-existentialist hippy bunkum.
This doco does a faithful enough job, allowing the surviving Doors fair opportunity (instruments in hand) to demonstrate the music’s evolution.
Riders on the Storm was inspired by Ghost Riders in the Sky. Who knew? Ultimately it adds little to the myth, but as LA DJ Jim Ladd says: “there’s always some kid just discovering The Doors. This film (also on Blu-ray) will serve them well enough.
