[DVD, Blu-ray] After witnessing 9/11 stuck on the ground at JFK airport, Paul McCartney wanted to help New York. This documentary by Albert ‘Gimme Shelter’ Maysles captures McCartney’s days in NYC in the lead up to the Concert for New York City.
Shot in stylish black and white, Maysles gets unlimited access to McCartney’s daily routine; media, rehearsals, street encounters and in-car conversations.
The focus is slightly weighted toward the role of McCartney’s celebrity status in the wake of 9/11, rather than the state of the city after the attacks, but it’s a diverting enough portrait of the man in some unguarded moments and McCartney fans will find much to enjoy.
