The Leeds youngsters return with their sophomore album Tough Love, with legendary producer Gil Norton (Echo & the Bunnymen, The Triffids, Pixies) enlisted to distil their trademark screamo vocals and heavy riffs into something more palatable to the masses.
Their progress sees their twisted punk stylings remain enmeshed within the songs, while also having elements of pop teased out. The tortured vocals recall Mclusky and Fugazi, but where Norton has been successful in bringing out hooks and choruses such as in album highlight Degeneration Game, they appear set on a path recalling early Pixies, which naturally led to Nirvana.

Tough Love finds Leeds lads Pulled Apart By Horses growing up and maturing ever so slightly. With the asisstance of Gil Norton they add a slight (ever so slight) gloss to their sound. It does lack a song that punches you in the guy a la 'High Five, Swan Dive, Nose Dive' or 'I Punched a Lion In the Throat', but cuts like the 'Epic Myth' and 'Give Me A Reason' provide some highlights. Solid, with evidence of growth, Tough Love shows PABY not standing still, but challenging their fans with good results.
