Welcome to the Pleasure Syndrome, the assured second album for Melbourne band the Witch Hats.
“I got the blues,” Kris Buscombe sings,“I got no way out. A buzzsaw running through my brain.” The songs sneer and snarl, but also have a seductive quality.
These aren’t happy songs – they are filled with twisted, cryptic imagery – but they have hooks. And the rumbling rhythm section adds live intensity; props to engineer Casey Rice.
Tastemakers have tipped big things for Witch Hats and this record shows they’re definitely on the right track. File next to Kim Salmon.
