An extraordinary rapport exists when jazz musicians who have played together a lot over 15 years play live.
On these tracks, recorded over a three year period at Melbourne jazz club Bennetts Lane, their interplay – knowing when to finish a solo, leaving room for each other to improvise – is uncanny.
The musicians (Burke, sax, Gould, piano, Floyd, drums, Haywood, double bass) have backgrounds in classical, pop and rock, evidenced in a repertoire that includes evergreens All of You and Easy to Love, a Finnish wedding song, and a piece written by Burke for his three daughters.
